First Kiss
At sixteen , my first date, was with my dream prince
It was down town to the Hippodrome, a vaudeville playhouse .
An electric streetcar took us to our destination.
As we prattled about this and that
The nervous tension disappeared .
Then, arm and arm into the darkness of the theater,
down the isle to our seat and await the live entertainment.
We found it hard to concentrate on the stage.
Shyly, hands reached over and were clasped tenderly.
Eyes gazed endearingly at each other.
We laughed in the right places of the show,
but our attention was elsewhere.
At last, the curtain dropped for the finale.
Into the cold we emerged.
Flutters of huge white flakes hit our face.
Joyously, we exclaimed ,”Let
It mattered not the long distance before us.
Our starlit eyes made a foolish decision
The warmth of our youthful emotions took over.
And walked we did, and what a walk!
Arms swinging ,laughing as happy as could be,
love sick, we bounced jubilant, on the snowy trail home.
At the front door , half frozen we embraced
Expectations and anticipation of our first kiss was high.
Suddenly, as if by an electric shock.
A voice ,”Come in, you both looked frozen stiff,
a hot chocolate will do the trick.”
Our bubble was burst, REALITY !
