Change
I have traveled the tides of aging,
dust filled lungs from driving on earthen paths
seat belts an unknown
Axles broken from bumps and ridges on hazardous lanes,
disabled cars along the roadsides
.
Traffic moving at a snails pace.
Why hurry?
Precious vehicle out for Sunday drive
Attractions throughout the journey abound,
“Burma shave” and “Stuckey’s” candy signs inundate.
News relayed by radio, newsboys shouting
headlines,from the “extra”
a special edition of exciting happenings.
City travel by electric street car
transportation to work and shopping.
On hot evenings,air conditioning
a ride across the city for a nickel
A great way to cool off !
Saturdays,a big day, Tom Mix and Ken Maynard,
cowboy movies to watch till closing for a dime.
Carnival Circus in the summer.
Side shows and rides galore.
Frank Sinatra,Eddie Cantor “live”at the theater
Jitterbug dancing to Gene Kupra and Artie Shaw .
Oh! The fun!
Now we have progressed
The music is Disc jockey and canned music.
Entertainment from the living room sofa.
Big TV screens.
Slick cars zip here and there.
Life at a fast pace.
Why do we hurry?
